Frequently Asked Questions
You have questions, we have answers. Email us if you have other questions that are not answered here.
Does this cost money?
No. Cole Valley Cares is a free volunteer based neighborhood community that connects volunteers in your community with people who are sheltering in place or otherwise cannot leave their homes, namely seniors over 60 years old and/or at risk persons. But remember: while delivery is free, you still need to purchase the goods that you request, or reimburse your volunteer for them.
Is it safe?
We take safety seriously. We have posted clear community guidelines with best practices on recommended hygiene and active physical distancing. All deliveries are contact-free, and volunteers need not enter requester’s homes.
Can anyone use it?
Anyone who has followed the Cole Valley Cares community guidelines can either request help or sign up to volunteer.
IMPORTANT: please remember that this service is intended to help the most vulnerable members of our community stay safely at home during the COVID-19 crisis. This includes those over 60, the immunocompromised, and those with pre-existing medical conditions that put them at greater risk. It also includes caregivers who cannot safely leave the cared for, and medical workers who need a little help between shifts. Bottom line: This service is for everyone who needs it, and only those who need it. And if you need it, please use it a lot. We’re all in this together. And together, we’ll flatten the curve and get through this.
Are there any restrictions to Volunteer?
Yes, do NOT volunteer if you are:
Experiencing any covid 19 symptoms or you are sick with flu/cold
Younger than 18
Older than 55
Have health conditions such as pulmonary healthy related issues, diabetes, or cardiac concerns
Have immunocompromised or have a poor immune system
How do payments work?
There are a few ways for you to pay for the goods that the volunteer is delivering for you:
Recommended: call the store, tell them the items you would like, and then pay over the phone with your credit card and let the store know that someone else will be picking them up for you. Or:
Use a digital/mobile payment platform to instantly pay your helper. We recommend Venmo, PayPal, Apple Pay, or Square Cash. Or:
Pay cash. We recommend leaving it in an envelope outside the door so your helper can leave the bag and pick up the money without either of you needing to be within 6 feet of each other. Please use a cleaning wipe to wipe down the cash (if you’re the requester) or the delivered items (if you’re the volunteer. And of course, wash your hands immediately and as possible throughout this process.
Is Cole Valley Cares a non profit organization?
